Ck2 Create Merchant Republic Bank
The only way that I know work for sure is by using the Tanistry succession law. But it is only accessible to the celtic culture group and won't work under norse religion.Anyway all you have to do is own at least 2 duchies and no kingdom (or empire). Settle the Tanist as a lord-mayor and then give him the corresponding duchy title making him independant. When you die he will inherit your lands. This does not work if you have a kingdom because the kingdom title would overide the newfound republic. Unless you had allready given a kingdom title to the independant republic of course. This also does not work with elective succession has lord mayors become uneligible. This only work with Tanistry. If you really want to go norse and you own Rajas of India, you can start has a celt and try to seize a norse duchy to create your republic.

Has anyone else had this glitch in CK2 when, as a feudal Emperor, you create a new vassal merchant republic and all the new patrician houses spawn, somehow your heir changes to someone else? Back in my Norman Roman Empire campaign, I did this for an MR in India and somehow my second youngest daughter became my heir, even though I had primogeniture. Although I'll be using many of those rules, I'll be using CK2-type stats, since they're a lot more applicable to rulership than D&D stats are. Much of the information on the birthright.net wiki can be assumed to be 'common knowledge', though it's not necessarily all accurate to my version of the world; feel free to ask for clarification on any.
Then you can convert to the local culture/religion, using the new RoJ decisions. There is actually an easy way to become a republic.Note: countys need to be coastal or this method will cause a unplayable inland republic.First your demesne has to be 1. (Actually it doesnt, but your heir will need a city in each province you want give him)Revoke a city in the same county you own.Give this city to your heir (with no other lands. Especially castles as this will mess up the conversion to republic).Cause a revolt with one of your vassels (Send someone to prison until they revolt)Cause a revolt with your heir(Again send them to prison and release until they revolt)Surrender to the vassel you caused to revolt. (not your heir)This will cause you to step down from the throne giving your titles to your son. Since he already controls the city of his county inheritence it becomes the main building causing you to become a republic.A side note sometimes when you become a republic the game will pop up the game over screen even if you own the DLC. To keep playing all you have to do is Alt-F4 which forces the game to save and quit.
When you load the save it should play just fine. You may have to do this 2x. The first will allow time to be unpaused, but you may still get the game over popup. If this happens just unpause for a day and alt-f4 again. This will cause a save the day after the republic is formed and should be playable no problem from there.
