9-8-2017: A couple weeks back the Google Play Store/Android Apps arrived (and have remained) on the Stable Channel, so I would like to change the focus of my review. The long awaited Core m5 version of the C302CA has arrived for nothing short of a staggering price! To this I have to say that in no way is the Core m5 version worth the current asking price (649). I should also add that I was someone who was willing to shell out north of a grand for the original 2013 Chromebook Pixel, and then again for the 2015 Chromebook Pixel LS. Outside of my Pixel LS, the Core m3 C302 is the machine I use the most, and is has never left me wanting with the exception of the display (relative to the Pixel's). Yes, the Core m5 will make this machine even faster.
I really like this laptop and the price is hard to beat. I would like it even better if it had an SSD hard drive but that may be a future upgrade. Be prepared to spend a few hours during setup. The Windows 10 upgrade is about the first thing that takes place!! Anyway, be patient and everything will be fine.
I also bought a 24' HDMI monitor that plugs directly in and a wireless keyboard and mouse and I can use it as my desktop computer. Then when I'm sitting on the couch I can use it as a tablet.
These 2-in-1 laptops are perfect for my type of requirements. Also this is a 7th generation Intel Core i5 processor so you're getting the latest processor technology.
I would have preferred 8GB of RAM but 6GB is fine for now. Are you on a mid to high end budget? Trying to find a PC that's lightweight and small, without compromising power? Do you care little for 2-1 computers or touch screens?
Then this laptop is for you.The specs on this little book are phenomenal. The main selling point for this computer is its 8th Gen Intel i5-8250U processor. The processor is monstrous for this price range. Its base speed of 1.6 GHz, means that your computer will be drawing as little power as possible for low demand tasks like word processing or internet browsing. But its turbo boost up to 3.4 GHz ensures that this laptop has power for more demanding tasks.Oh, and did I mention that this processor has FOUR CORES? Yes, that's right FOUR CORES.
Sorry about that. Might change that later.-If there are any types of naming conflicts the program will override the files.EG:Let Gallery A contain File named 'Alpha.jpg'Let Gallery B contain File named 'Alpha.jpg' tooIf you run the program raw (Without any code alternations) or you don't relocate the files after downloading Gallery A but before downloading Gallery B, 'Alpha.jpg' from Gallery B will override 'Alpha.jpg' from Gallery B, resulting in 'Alpha.jpg' from Gallery A being lost. This is unusual at this price range, as many laptops on the market around $750 tend to have dual core processors instead. Excellent ultrabook at this price point. Fantastic screen resolution and speed of operation thanks to the combination of M2 SSD, 8GB RAM and Windows 10.No idea about reliability as this is my first ASUS purchase. I hope I don't have to reach out to customer care in the lifetime of this laptop.Fan is almost inaudible and the laptop remains cool even after a continuous use of few hours at a stretch. I am getting about 6-8 hours of battery time with mix use consisting of mainly browser use and occasional video. I think the full HD unit should give more battery time.CONS - Only cons that I could see is the hinge is bit wobbly.
This could have been made better. It hardly costs anything more for a more stable hinge. I am thrilled with this model. Sweethome reviewed the previous generation and rated it one of the best and I got this newer version instead.
I really like the fingerprint reader - it is much more secure. I am amazed that this much power and battery life can fit in something this small and light with no active cooling. For anyone looking to add storage, Transcend makes a very short SD card that will fit in the shallow SD slot barely sticking out. Available in 64GB, 128GB or 256GB it can be used for backup (file History in Windows 10) or file storage. ASIN:B00K73NSXQ Transcend 64GB JetDrive Lite 330 Storage Expansion Card for 13-Inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display (TS64GJDL330). Edit.
(1/24/2018):Now that Amazon has actually published this review, here are a few edits and recaps the original review is more thorough:-Apparently I was mistaken: you have to purchase Windows 10 Pro separately if you want Pro, there is no free upgrade (at least none I could find). Otherwise W10 Home has remained satisfactory.
It was always a fast OS, still is, programs open quickly, switching from one to another and between tabs is as seamless as on a desktop, and the power on-through-BIOS-to-login screen time is less than ten seconds, I'd say. I don't know if Microsoft finally stopped making constant updates, but I haven't noticed any update interruptions in the last 2 weeks.
Maybe they decided to stop torturing people with forced updates. Maybe the laptop has be waking itself up in the middle of the night and installing while I sleep.
Asus Laptop Models With Backlit Keyboard
IDK.-I am loving this Intel chip. This laptop is beautifully designed. Light up keyboard, windows 10, really slim and lightweight. At the beginning when you turn it on it may seem a little slow, but just remove some of the unnecessary (to you) programs and it should just fine. You should be aware that this is not a gaming laptop but ideal for browsing and multimedia entertainment.
Also it has stereo Bluetooth. I will probably invest in a keyboard cover. The keyboard seems like a stain magnet.
Asus Laptop Backlit Keyboard Not Turning On
Overall I'm pleased and you probably will too.By the way I thought the asus logo lights up behind it, it doesn't a little bummed but whatever lol. Went through nightmares reading other reviews about this; one guy says it's loud, one guy measures the distance of the key presses (really people, come on!), and another says it's not bright enough (um, did you adjust the brightness settings in your battery/power settings???!!)My advice is this; follow your instinct, read the positive reviews, and if you must, read a COUPLE of bad reviews to feel informed (or completely confused).OUTSTANDING LAPTOP. Coming from a circa 2008 MacBookPro, this is on fire. Plays any hd stream I've thrown at it; 4k, 2k, high bitrates, whatever.
Completely and utterly SILENT - what are these folks talking about coil whine? Yes, I've made the fans go on and they're nearly silent. What are people talking about bad sound for?
LOL - it sounds amazing - has actual bass response.I don't know why consumers find the need to be super critical. Was in need of a new Laptop my old one was about 7 years old and slowing down. I was debating on this laptop and HP Envy for a couple months and decide to go with this one. I've only had this laptop for 5 days but, overall I'm very happy with it so far. It's very light weight and has the appearance of a Mac book. I mainly needed a laptop to transfer pictures from my phone onto it, it downloaded about 16,000 pictures relatively fast.
Having the 128gbSSD and the 1TB HDD is great because the SSD is super fast and the 1TB is good because I have so many pictures and this is definitely more than enough storage for that. Overall this laptop is very fast and a big improvement from my last HP Pavilion laptop, i was nervous to go from HP to ASUS but.
